According to a survey of over 8000 males by the web site HealthyStrokes.com in the first half of 2007, only 33.1 percent of 3048 sexually experienced straight males have experienced anal sex with a female. The same goes for 32.4 percent of males who call themselves "mostly straight," 29.9 percent of bisexual males, 5.3 percent of mostly gay males, and 4.2 percent of gay males.
Only 1.9 percent of sexually experienced straight males have had anal sex with another male, as have 22.6 percent of mostly straight males, 54.8 percent of bisexual males, 77.8 percent of mostly gay males, and 84.5 percent of gay males.
The survey did not ask how often males engage in these acts, only if they had done them to the point of orgasm at least once. Thus, it would seem that at most a third of straight males are interested in anal sex at all, and that figure is apt to include males who have only tried it a few times.
The fact that the porn industry promotes a particular act does not mean a large share of the population is doing it, as documented by the large amount of porn dedicated to very unusual fetishes.

I can't talk to men receiving anal as I have no experience. I believe that most men may be able to last longer when their partner inserts a finger as it may reduce overall arousal.
