Leg Length Difference?!

Question: My child is 3 years old. He seems to be having a small 0.5 cms difference in length between his left leg and right leg. I wanted to know if this difference will increase as he grows up? What should I be doing today to arrest this gap

It's not necessarily posture. My 21 month old has a condition called hemi-hypertrophy which has to be followed by an orthopedic surgeon. He currently has 5/8" difference in his legs. You probably should take him to the ped. to get it checked out b/c there can be some other actual genetic problems that cause the length discrepancy (not saying that's what he has though). My son has to have renal ultrasounds every 3 months until he's 8 to make sure he doesn't develop any size difference in his kidneys, which can cause problems.

My sons differences include: 5/8" longer left leg, MUCH fatter left leg, left foot is 1.5 sizes larger than right and he wears a 5/8" lift on his right foot to make sure he doesn't develop any hip problems from his legs being different lengths. Other than that his development has been above normal. He walked early even.

It could just be that one hip is more raised than the other due to posture. Though you should see a doctor, just in case.

Hope all goes well.

In most people one leg is shorter then the other.

this can right itself while the child is still growing
