Why did they castrate boys for opera? a doctor please!?!

Question: why did they castrate young boys so they could continue to sing soprano? i know it was to keep their voices higher, but what was the medical reason that caused the voice change? how can it affect your voice if it's way down there? did they do it before they dropped? do males with larger testicles have deeper voices? do mens' voices still sound the same after one testicle is removed? is there anything down there on a woman that would affect her voice if it were removed?

The testicles hold the majority of the testosterone which will contribute to the growth of a young boy (including the voice getting deeper). If a boy is castrated before his voice drops, he won't have enought test. to help him grow into a full man, so to speak. With a childish, immature voice, reaching higher notes will be easier and more gracefull than a grown man (uncastrated) to clumsly reach a pitch too high.

by doing that the kid doesnt have testosterone and when he goes through puberty his voice never gets diper (i think)

Keeps their voices high

A castrato was a male soprano who was castrated to prevent puberty and thus preserve the pitch of his voice. Testosterone would not be available to initiate puberty.

The size are number or testicles has no bearing on testosterone production or how deep a man's voice becomes.

I can't answer your last question.
