My son is masturbating.. is it okay?!

Question: I just find out that my grade-6 son (11 yrs. old) is masturbating. Is it okay for his health? Will it affect how tall he grows when he is in puberty? What should i tell him?

Don't bother him about it, as it will make him feel uncomfortable around you, and possibly make him feel guilty about sex/masturbation for years to come. If you must mention it, make him feel comfortable about it, and assure him it's okay.

He may have started a little earlier than most, but it's okay, as masturbation is proven to be healthy, when not done in excess. It has no effect upon his growth.

its perfectly normal and healthy, no worries at all

it's normal and atleast he isn't screwing everyone or getting std's.

its normal... dont worry about it!!! dont tell him anything!

It is totally normal.......don't worry about it........Didn't you do the same thing????

What would you tell him????

It's nothing to worry about it's normal, and there is nothing to tell him it all comes natural... he learned how to do it on his own the best thing to do is leave him alone and don't embarass him.

wow do u live under a rock?

Perfectly normal.
As long as it isn't happening so frequently to cause pain, but then he'll probably figure that out.
No, it will not affect his height, or anything else like that, all myths.

If he's masturbating it definitely time for "the talk".
He needs to know about his body, and sex.

It's perfectly normal and healthy, especially at his age. It won't affect him physically at all (except perhaps that one hand might get a bit more tired than the other). What you should tell him depends on your own views and morality on how acceptable masturbation is.

You would probably be best to ignore the fact that you found out that he is doing this, it will just be too embarrassing for him to know he got caught by his parent.

It's definately time for a general sex talk though, and you could mention it then. I would suggest is that you go on some medical websites and check out the fact from fiction before you talk to him (it doesn't make you blind either), and also work out your own views, so that any questions he may have won't phase you. Don't expect questions right away either, just let him know you're willing to answer, even if it's by writing notes or sending emails to take the intimidation factor out of it.

wait wait, At the age of 11 your son is mast'ing.
This is no way normal, he wont be able to ejaculate until he reaches 14-15 yrs of his age. He might make his penis rusty and suffer. he should be taken to a counsellor.

Also, boys do seem to be maturing earlier nowadays. Some say it is due to hormones in milk [the body converts estrogen to testosterone - the molecules are very similar - only a tiny little methyl group difference].

I started earlier than that. Now at 15, mid puberty, my height is fine. I'm 5' 9". He'll be alright.

its fine!
everyone does it!
how did you find out? haha

Tell him to do it in private. No one wants to watch him and then leave him alone. We all master bate. Admit it you did to, to some degree. It will not effect any thing except his pleasure and knowledge of what it is to be used for.

It is normal. Boys and girls do it. Mothers and fathers too. It will have effect on him whatsoever. Don't tell him anything, just let him go.

It is perfectly normal. It wont effect his growth or anything like that. It is actually healthy. I started to when i was in 5th grade (10 years old). He is fine.

It's perfectly normal, it's time for boys at this age to get aroused and have some sexual activities.

Don't have to worry! If you are afraid, you should check with your husband, at what age he started masturbating?

do not tell him anything! it is normall! masturbation make the sperm stronger

Let him masturbate. You don't have to say anyting to him.

tell him almost all boys masturbate and it is normal and healthy
give him his privacy
a good book is
What's Happening to My Body, for boys

masturbating does not effect height or anything else
he is a normal boy curious about his body

of course it is
lost of boys your son's age have discovered how good it feel to play with their penis
and how much better it feels if they continue to rub it once its hard
tell him it is OK to masturbate but he should do it in private
so be sure you give him his privacy
