Cold Sores or herpes simplex 1 cause small fluid filled blisters associated with infections of the lips, mouth and face.
Herpes simplex infections are contagious and usually spread by direct contact with the blisters or fluid they contain.
By the way, this is not the terrible herpes you might think it is, the only thing that might happen is that you could get a cold sore now and then.
There are other types of herpes that are much more terrible than this.
So, no, hugging him or cuddling with him will not cause you to get the herpes virus. You have to have direct contact with one of the blisters or the fluid from the blister. And even if you had contact your body's immune system might simply kill the virus.
I have been married for many years, I have had the herpes simplex 1 virus (cold sores) since I was a little girl and have had a few cold sores, that is all. My husband who has been around the entire time, has never had a cold sore.
So do not panic, this cold sore thing will not really hurt you.

NO!! it's just like a form of herpes. You actually have to be in contact with the sore to get it. That means no kissing, no sharing drinks, and chap stick!! Maybe when he doesn't have a "out break" you can't catch it.
BE CAREFUL, once you get it you will always have it. It can go away but it always can pop back up!

Most oral cold sores are herpes type 1 (genital herpes is type 2) BUT there can be cross-over SO NO ORAL or you'll be very a very sorry girl!

No, I don't think so, My fiance constantly has cold sores and I kiss him and I never catch them. I mean just to be precautious, don't kiss him till it goes away, but you can hug and cuddle =]
btw... "Kanka" (mouth pain liquid, oral anesthetic) is the BEST thing against cold sores! =]
