Husband seems depressed?!

Question: My husband seems depressed and I want to help him. Everyone around us is noticing, but him. Hes not shaving, only showering like2 times a week, drinking a 6 pack every friday (after he told me and the kids he wasnt going to anymore), and his self esteem is way low. Its just not like him. He asks me 500 times a day if I love him and when I say "of course!" he says..."alot?" . He doesnt like his job much, but thats about all I can think of that could be wrong...how can I help?

It sounds like he suspects you of cheating on him. I know, I have serious issues with trust and relationships in particular. If he hates his job and he believes you are cheating on him that is enough right there to push him over the edge. The reason he asks if you love him is to try and reassure himself that he has a certain amount of control in his life. Otherwise the drinking and depression are all that he has to control and to control the amount of alcohol he consumes is important to his mentality. Unfortunately you can't help him. This is an issue within himself that only he can fix (with the help from doctors). You seem like a person who wants to fix things and that is great but only he can fix this, you can only support what he decides for assistance.

A six pack once a week is not horrible but combined with the other symptoms you described he could indeed be depressed. However, I think he's feeling major guilt and keeping something of significance from you. Just my guess as a divorced, cheating husband. The showering has me concerned tho. I guess whatever he's guilty of is over now.

Get him to a doctor for a check up.

how old is your husband? Possible male menopause (andropause). A physical problem could mimic depression.
I would see if he would go to the Dr. for a physical and blood work. He could have a low thyroid, elevated blood sugar, low B12 or testosterone (doesn't just have to do with sex). Call ahead and let the Dr. know your concerns(Dr cannot discuss his case unless he has given you permission, but you can state your concerns without breaking HIPPA Laws. sometimes, a picture is worth a thousand words...?have a cell phone? snap a pic and see what he thinks. Tell him he looks tired and rundown, not depressed or he will become defensive and never go to the Dr.

Yeah, he's depressed. Get his *** a new job and/or some help. Swallowing also helps.
