Should I Lie to Give Blood?!
Question: Ok so here's the situation... I need a little extra money to help get me through till payday next week, and I thought I could donate blood for roughly $50-100. The only problem is I'm a gay man, and usually blood centers refuse to take blood from gay men. I was recently cleared and tested negative for HIV, and I haven't been sexually active for a few months. My question is should I lie to the blood center to give blood and make some money? What would you do?

You should definitely not lie to give blood even though you think you are safe. The reasons you can't dontate are there to protect the people who might recieve your blood just like if you take certain medications you can't donate.
If you need the extra money, you might want to check into donating plasma (although they MIGHT have the same rule) or joining a medical study since they usually pay for your time and travel. Check out the link below for one example.
Not sure where you're giving blood that you're getting paid for it. Still you should not lie. Remember Karma dude.

Gawd, no!!! Don't lie! You're lying to yourself if you think a negative HIV test means you haven't been exposed. Someties it takes 6 or more months to show a positive result. People in high risk groups should NEVER donate, unless it's for themselves. Very irresponsible!
Very bad for your rep. if you lie... if you were donating blood out of the good of your heart like many people, it may be a different situation... but lying for money gets a lot of people locked up.
Call some blood centers and ask about their official policy. Don't lie about it.
thats a bit inconsiderate for the person who maybe receiving the blood!!!! put yourself in their position!!! if you contracted HIV from a blood transfusion cos someone wasnt honest how would you feel? because i certainly wouldnt be happy!!

and in england it is ilegal to lie about having HIV and knowingly infecting someone and has a prison sentance attached to it!!!
i suggest just budgeting if your short of money!!

Don't lie. Even if you have been tested and are clean its best not to give blood. I would not go to one of those places that pays for your blood. I give blood at the Red Cross. Its much safer. You don't know how sanitary things are at those places where they pay you.
I know it may seem unfair, but the blood centres have a donor deferral system set up in place to screen out those who are at high risk of contracting certain blood-borne illnesses from donating. This is still a carry-over from the AIDS crisis of the 1980's, but it still sort of makes sense. It can take up to 6 months after being infected for you to show up positive on an HIV test, and you could still infect others in the meantime.
Other groups that are usually prohibited from donating blood include IV drug users, people who have just returned from the tropics or have contracted malaria or been treated for malaria, and those who have lived in or travelled to countries at high risk for contracting bovine spongiform encephelopathy (BCE or Mad Cow Disease).
Please, don't lie about it. A negative HIV is a good thing, but it is not foolproof. Don't put others at risk.
If you need a few dollars until next week, borrow it from a friend, family member or neighbor, or get an advance on a credit card.
Why not just see if you can pick up an odd job or two to earn some extra cash to see you threw? If you lived near me I'd put you to work for $50 to $100.
By the way, if you're getting paid for your blood, it's not donating, it's selling!
