How to prevent ingrown hairs?!

Question: I am 17, I have a patchy beard+moustache combo. And I have heard that shaving against the grain can cause the hair follicles to be inverted and grow into the skin. And that double razors can collect hair and then embed them in the skin. And that using alcohol can also help to prevent them. My hair is too short to use clippers, help!! I don't absolutely need creams to shave do I?

a shaving cream would help.
Exfoliation is key. If you are not removing dead skin cells they will accumulate over your freshly shaved follicles and cause hairs to not break the surface but continue to grow under the skin. St Ives apricot scrub every few days would help...or a facial lotion with alpha hydroxy acid...
My fiance and I both use clean and clear cooling pore toner...it has glycolic acid AND alcohol in it which will speed up the exfoliation process

I use regular hand soap to shave. I have a couple of in grown hairs that I have to pay special attention to. Doesn't matter which way you shave, it's bound to happen.

i don't know how to prevent them but i know that soap and water helps get rid of them, it's that simple!~
