I'm 23 now and I'm really getting tired of them. I go threw alot to hide it from my girlfriend because It makes me feel like a pussy. Do any other guys have them but dont tell anyone?

Panic attacks and anxiety are really, really common problems for guys to have - and most feel like you do, and try to just hide it from everyone and not seek help.

So firstly, congratulations for having the guts to seek help from a doctor!

Anxiety is one of those illnesses that won't go away on its own, and while medication can help you feel better, it's generally best to use a combination of things.

This is what I'd suggest, both from personal experience and my education as a future doc.

1) Google for panic or anxiety support groups. Many have very beneficial self-help pages that give you some good techniques for getting in control without having to rely on meds.
2) Be thankful for your medication, but realise it will only treat the symptoms, not the underlying problem. Use it as a last-resort type measure, or in conjunction with other options.
3) Consider seeing a therapist, preferably a psychologist or psychiatrist trained in CBT (cognitive behavoural therapy) - they can offer you techniques for controlling the anxiety.
4) Ensure your diet is good and you sleep well - sleep, especially, makes a huge difference!
5) Consider where the stress in your life is coming from and challenge why you're stressed about it. Consider bringing this up with a therapist for options to manage stress.
6) Exercise regularly
7) Socialise regularly

It is a hard problem to completely kick, but you can expect to get on top of it within a year and be able to function well without panic attacks. Some may take longer than this, and some may take less time.

Best of luck, if you have any problems or concerns see your doctor, therapist or friends. Take care.
