Why do waiters think that it is ok to flirt or hit on me when i am with my mom??!
Question: i am 16. this has happened a couple times now.
a couple months ago i was eating with my mom at this restaurant and our server was trying to flirt with me. my mom even noticed him doing that. she said i think he likes you and he came back to our table about 10 times and kept asking "hows everything over here?" every single time like every other minute. and he didn't go to anyone elses table.. when it isn't even the type of restaurant where the server is supposed to check back with you. at least this guy was my age.
and then yesterday this guy who was like 23-25 years old kept trying to joke with me and asked my mom are you sure i shouldn't have alcohol in my pina colada. then he kept trying to ask me when my spring break was and try to poke fun at how much i ate for like 2 whole minutes and and he kept talking and trying to make me laugh
why do these people do this in front of my mom don't they know this is so embarrasingly weird???? do you think this is ok or inappropriate???

You must be pretty. A waiter's best spot to meet women is probably on the job, so if they're attracted to you, they figure "why not" and they go for it.
If you really don't want them to, then try not to look your best. I know that doesn't sound fair, but it may be the only way. Or snub them and try not to make any eye contact or acknowledge them.

he was making a play for you, he should not of done that while she was there.
They are using the interaction between them and your mother to flirt with you. The adult at the table is the main customer. Once the waiter has made his required contact with the adult then he adds conversation towards you which he feels is OK because he is not a stranger to your mother anymore.
My daughter is only 12 but looks 16. She doesn't flirt or flaunt herself but some guys (not just waiters) will flirt a little bit with her, which she doesn't seem to understand (she doesn't react).
As long as your with your parent then you're safe and nothing to worry about.
Its tacky. If I was your Mom I would tell him to back off. That is what I did when that happened with my daughters.
