Firstly, I congratulate you on making a healthy change - just getting started is often the most difficult part. As far as supplements go, a daily multivitamin almost never hurts, especially if you are a healthy 18 year-old. It's better to get all of the vitamins and minerals from fresh food, but what your body doesn't need from the daily vitamin will simply be passed in the stool, stored, or removed in the urine. So the answer is yes, it is a fine supplement for you as it will provide an additional source for vitamins and minerals while you change over your diet. Best of luck!

How tall are you? If you are under 6 foot, then you are probably overweight. The best thing to measure is % body fat. I had purchased a nice tester at Radio Shack, by Lifewise. It's about $5-6 last time I checked. (No, I don't own stock or work at Radio Shack, or Lifewise).

Definitely drink lots of water, it raises the metabolism. Drink about 16 oz at a time. If you are 200 lbs, drink about 100 oz of water a day.

Vitamins. In reality, any in pill form just doesn't get absorbed by the body too well. About only 10% gets absorbed, according to the PDR. I recommend a liquid form as the best with minerals.

P.S. Don't forget fiber in your diet. The governement recommends 25 grams per day. The average American only gets half of that! Other experts recommend 40 grams. Look for whole grains as an easy start. Best wishes.
