haha its called spontaneous erections. it's apart of puberty. it is more normal than any other sign of guys in puberty. I'm 13, and it's less now, but still happens. I think it happens because it can now,ahaha. I read somewhere that increased blood flow is a result of this[happens when you get excited.] but you said you werent thinking about chicks, so i guess it happens cause your still developing. Um, the best thing to do is DONT STAND UP. also, where cargo shorts. those work real good. Also, i know this is weird, but try wearing boxer briefs. They fit like boxers, but are supportive and hold them in more than boxers.

Thats completley normal, you don't need a trigger to get an erection. Most erections come when your not even thinking about it, so don't worry. Even first graders get erections, and they obviously don't think about sex or girls, and trust me, they definatley DON'y masturbate. Your a completley normal 12 year old, chill.

It really is all part of puberty. But 5.5 inches? I hope that is when it's hard. Either way. Soft or hard. 5.5 inches when you are only 12. Perfectly awesome!!
I guess I'm luckier than you. I didn't start having that problem until I was 13. Don't worry. Everybody else is or will be having the same problem. It's just part of puberty.
