The myths put out by religion and other warped belief systems are baseless. If this hobby were medically damaging a large proportion of the population would be crippled in one way or another.
The main thing that influences your height is your genetic makeup. However other factors may have some influence...eg disasterously deficient diets (impoverished people), exposure to pollution, perhaps smoking/alcoholism/drug-taking by pregnant mothers etc etc.
In passing..... it is good to be slightly underweight....in later life our bodies become more fat-retentive....so you are in good shape.
