Prostate biopsy - chances of cancer?!

Question: My husband has to have a prostate biopsy, are they doctors just being cautious, is this a fairly regular thing, or do they not do a biopsy unless they are pretty sure cancer is there? could it be negative and all be okay?

They are eliminating the possibility that there may be cancer present. I assume he has had a PSA test with a higher than average reading and that's why they want to perform a biopsy. PSA can rise to a high level for a number of reasons other than cancer, bladder infection being the most common.
I would not worry at this stage but would like to offer some early reassurance. Many more men die with prostate cancer than from it. Providing it is diagnosed at an early stage then the condition can be controlled.

it is for certain that it is cancer. that's why they do the biopsy to see if there is any cancer. benign growths can cause strange readings and not be cancer. i learned with my thyroid not to jump to conclusions. take it one step at a time.

it is a routine check relax it will be cool
