Question: Can your doctor call the police on you if you tell them you smoke marijuana daily? He asked me if i use any drugs and i said i dont feel comfurtable answering that. No, he cannot. However, the question is appropriate as it affects your overall help for the procedure you were requesting. We have to tell our doctor EVERYTHING whether it is comfortable or not. He or she are not into the guessing game. Perhaps there is a bigger question for you: why do you feel so uncomfortable talking about your drug use?

You need to tell your dr if you use drugs.. he has to know in case there are counterindications or precautions that need to be taken. And no, your dr can never tell anyone else what is said - its 100% confidential. (Unless he's a shrink and you tell him youre about to go commit a crime- there it gets sticky).

The reason they ask is because certain drugs can have bad reactions with the legal drugs they're planning on pumping you with.
They're not there to judge or capture, they just want to make sure you're going to be okay.
Seriously, do not worry about it. I have had surgical procedures before and they always ask about marijuana and other drug use. They do this because they use anesthesia in which there could be a reaction to illegal drugs. This is also for their personal insurance reasons. Just be honest with them and nothing will happen. They cannot give out any information to law enforcement due to confidentiality reasons.

In all seriousness, the doctor probably wants this information so that he doesn't prescribe you something that may have an adverse effect if you are using other drugs. Marijuana isnt really a drug though that would fall into this category of "drugs" that would cause the side effects hes attempting to prevent.
The reason he's asking you that is because if you are going for any type of surgery (or surgical procedure) where you need any type of anesthesia you could react badly if you use illegal or even prescription drugs. So he has to ask. That's just protocol. He wasn't looking to call the police on you, but you may have jeopardized your chances with getting the procedure done by this particular doctor.
