Question: I am a 14 year old male and I run 5-8 miles daily for track/cross country. My parents have been saying that this will stunt my growth. Is this true?

Sort of,
Long distance running during your developmental years may cause some damage to your growth plates and muscles but I don't think it is very serious as long as you take care of your body.
In the long run, running really long distances like marathons is, however, bad for your body- its not meant for that kind of treatment and will deteriorate.... {this may be what your parents are going off of}
If your really concerned, you should contact a local orthopedist, or physical trainer, and they will have better answers for you.
congrats by the way, I wish I could run like you
no
i dont know why they would say that too
maybe your too skinny
I dont think so as long as you are getting enough good food, you should be fine
Well it's said that early muscle growth can prevent your bones from growing, but I've also heard that it's a load of crap. Just take in some calcium and protein on a regular basis and you'll be fine. Lack of calcium prevents your bones from growing stronger.
