Lead Question??!

Question: I am currently 14 and associated with alot of lead. I handle alot of ammo for my rifle, and touch my fishing euipment that is made of lead. Sometimes on accident I will get hungry while working on my gun or on my fishing stuff and have a snack like chips or something without washing my hands. I recently heard lead could cause birth defects. I was wondering in a few years maybe age 24 or 25 when I decide to have childern will they have birth defects from the lead handleing Im doing now. What are the odds. I am a little scared for my non-existing children.

Unfinished (unsealed) lead is fairly dangerous to handle. It increases the risk of cancer, it can lead to birth defects, and if you were only a little younger it could also lead to other difficulties for you.

Now, on the plus side -- unless you are using a black powder gun -- most shells are sealed in steel, so I doubt that you are particularly handling the lead parts of your ammo -- although maybe you are.

Ideally you would use protection while handling lead, but at least wash your hands before eating.

Yes, its a pain, but it increases how safe you are -- which should interest you.

Kind thoughts,

That is true. But you shouldn't just wash your hands, you should wear gloves, you can get cancer just from handling lead. Don't do it anymore. I know it will be annoying but you don't want lead poisoning, cancer, or birth defects in your future children. Then STOP!

Please take my advice.
