What is the purpose of being circumcised?!

Question: There is no purpose. Currently it is just an unfortunate tradition that people are too ignorant to let go off.

In the past, they had lots of "reasons". These included....
Circumcision first became popular because it was thought to stop children from maturbating (which in turn caused blindness, insantiy and a host of other problems) We now know that masturbation is normal, and that circumcised guys still find ways to masturbate anyway

Circumcision keeps genitals "cleaner" and "healthier" this *may* have been true back before soap and water were invented, or for people running around the desert in loinclothes. But in modern America, it is absolutely untrue.

Some religions believe it is required- notably Judaism and Islam. Careful reading and examination of historic and current practices though can lead one to conclude that it is NOT nessecary to any religion. At the very least, it should be left up to adult memebers of the religion, as somthing that they can undergo to show their devotion to their faith- NOT a permanenet brand on the genitals of their children

In other cultures it is a "rite of passage". Mostly in Africa and Polynesia, where it makes a "MAN" if you can undergoe amputation of the ofreskin without flinching, and survive recovery (boy DO die from this)

Does that help some? -Neb

Hygiene reasons.

makes the penis look bigger =)
lol

the main reason is because the fore skin tends to hold on to dirt and bacteria. so its really just for hygeine

Besides religious reasons. It is much cleaner, and more aesthetically pleasing to women.

Basically it's an American tradition. It started because it reduces the chances of a male catching a yeast infection. Now days it's also done to fit in with everyone else. (Also I think the Jewish do it as a religious tradition)

Circumcision is a very old practice...the folds of the foreskin can harbor all sorts of nasty bacteria.

Recently the world health organization released a report that found circumcised men are less likely to contract HIV and other specific veneral diseases. This suggests that there really is something medical to the practice.

Hygiene

To reduce the amount of pleasure a male would get from sex and still leave him capable of fathering children.

That is why it removes the five most sensitive areas of the penis.

All the rest of the "reasons" are made up sales pitches to get parents to allow the "doctors" to mutilate their baby boys.

A complete penis is easier and more fun to clean than ears are so why don't we cut off a boy's ears too if it is necessary to mutilate his penis for "hygiene".

Hygiene,Cleanliness and Good looking

Usually either religious requirements (e.g. Jews) or medical necessity (e.g. problems with the foreskin).

Most men in the world are NOT circumsized, and are just fine.

I'm not, and I've never had any hygiene problems...
