Men routinely get hernia's and it is not unusual. I would simply tell your mother that you have a hernia and there are several types and that you need to see a surgeon or a primary care Dr to see surgeon to get it fixed. This is just normal routine maintenance of a man's body. I have had 4 of them fixed once and one was fixed twice.

just tell your mom, if you're hurt, you CAN make it worse if you don't go to the doc and get it fixed. They will do a hernia check, but it's to make sure that it is a hernia and not a strained(pulled) muscle. You shouldn't be embarresed about your own health.
well man, you have no choice but to tell her. Hernia is something to be fixed ASAP, specially in males can lead to a complications related to your testes muscles. Anyway to have an hernia is not a big deal, even kicking a football it can happen
