defiantly the note routine works better if your shy or if he's always around his friends!. Do you know the guy or is he a classmate that you have yet to interact with!? Depending on age the guy might react differently and you should never come on too strong on him and its a bad idea to let him know that you "love" or are "crazy" about him as that might scare him away if your not that close to him yet!.
To me I appreciate it more when a girl confronts me to tell me that she likes me!. Through out my years I've seen it happen as the girl would say that she would like to tutor me on my math and would invite me to the library!. Then she would confess that she like me etc!.
Another one is a girl left a note on my desk that gave me her e-mail address and she simply wrote on the note
"Hey, we should chat sometimes online! Heres my e-mail address!. Hope to hear from you soon! :)"
