I guess I he really wants her back he needs to be prepared that she may never forgive him and he might not get her trust again!. That being said, a good heart felt apology along with a detailed explanation of why he did it would be a good start!. It's going to take a lot of time and she may never be the same!. more importantly, does the wife want him back!? i don't know many women who'd take back a cheating husband and even then all trust is lost as she doesn't know if he's likely to do it again!.
i'd tell him to have a serious think before he walks back in her life and potentially does it again and sticks the knife in a little deeper!.
when soemone cheats in a marraige it's an obvious sign that something is wrong!. if she's willing to take him back then i suggest they both go marriage counselling as life can't just 'go on' the way it did before!. something is broken between two people when someone cheats and it might never be able to be repaired!.

Be a friend and tell him, "You are a cheater!. If I were you, I would rethink wanting any specific woman, as you can not handle a relationship!. You are only looking at her as security or something warm to sleep next to!. Find a "f' buddy"!. They are out there, and I think you aren't looking for much else!."
