Can prostate cancer be treated ?!

Question: Can prostate cancer be treated !?
Apparently about half the males who die at over 50 have already developed prostate cancer to some degree, and it can affect younger men too (see Tom Hanks in The Green Mile), and can spread to the legs!. Is there no treatment, medication, or surgery available !?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi Pete

What you are referring to with older men is when they do an autopsy they often find there are signs of prostate cancer in older men but the man didn't know he had it!. It usually grows slowly in older men!.

There is a more stronger type that younger men from their 40s can develop!.

Yes there are many different types of treatment for prostate cancer!. One is to give female hormones that make the cancer shrink!. There is what's known as radical prostectomy where the whole of the prostate is removed surgically!. Another treatment is to implant little pellets into the prostate that kills off the cancer!. So yes there are lots of ways to treat it!.

I hope your prostate is healthy!. Please note that it gets bigger in every man from about 50 onwards but that is normal growth and not cancer!. It is treated with removing part of the prostate or by taking a medication called finasteride to shrink it!.

Are you having any problems with your prostate!?
Email me if you want to know more!.

Hi
As ever there are varying degrees of truth in some of the answers already posted!. As with all cancers early detection dictates the best course of treatment!. Each case is looked at individually looking at many different 'markers'!. Due to the complex nature of the disease a national screening program is very difficult to implement but it is being looked into!. If the disease is caught early one option is not to treat, but rather t monitor PSA levels and wait to see if the cancer starts to progress by performing regular screening including biopsy and monitoring the prostate for lumps and bumps!. This is the least invasive option and as you said most men will die in old age with a prostate cancer that they did not know that they had and that gave them no symptoms!. Good advice from a fully qualified specialist is crucial in the decision making process when deciding which treatment is the most suitable for a man!. Many of the treatments come with potential side effects and one must be aware of these before making a decision, also if the cancer is already quite advanced the treatment options narrow!.
As for it going to the legs!.!.!.highly unlikely
If there is any close male family member who has had prostate cancer and you are over 40 why not go get a check up at the GP!.
There are plenty of very good prostate cancer web sitesWww@Answer-Health@Com

Yes it can, and like all cancers, the earlier it is diagnosed the better the prognosis!.

There are moves afoot to try and get a national prostate screening program similar to breast screening, but as usual it comes down to cost!.

Early treatment is as simple as hormone therapy, as prostate cancer is testosterone dependant!.

Later treatment includes chemotherapy and radical prostatectomy where the whole prostate is removed surgically!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well like all cancer there is gaurunteed cure, but there are several ways to treat it, just like other cancers depending on the doctors evaluation, Chemotheraphy, Radiation, Cancer drugs, and in some cases surgery are all considerations!. There is always chance of the cancer reoccuring, but with technology, we are now able to treat the symptoms and also try and remove or keep the cancer from spreading!. All though there is no one cure that is proven to work everytime, there are many ways to treat and sometimes cure the cancer, but also there are several ways to take precautions to prevent yourself from forming cancerWww@Answer-Health@Com

Hello there,
Prostate cancer is a complex business and there are different types of tumour!. It can be treated very well if diagnosed early!. It is best to see a surgeon with special experience of it because of the complexity and because of recent developments!. It is also true that many men die with it rather than from it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Prostate cancer is one of the more common and treatable cancers!. The most commonly chosen treatment is radiation, and side effects are 1st degree burns (like a sunburn) caused by the radiation!.

If it's caught early enough (as in, not in the later stages) then treatment generally has a high success rate!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

most type of cancer has some form of treatment!. of course if the cancer is to a certain degree there may be a slim chance of recovery, but if u catch cancer earlier there is always a chance of success!. treatment may include chemo or also removal of a testicle that is infected!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is possibe to treat it!. There are a number of ways of doing so!. But like most cancers it will depend on what stage the cancer is at and whether or not it has spread and where it has spread to as to how successful the treatment is!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
