for the most part, yes, they do protect you, IF USED PROPERLY!. But, there are some STD's that they're ineffective against!. Crabs for example!. Easily enough taken care of, but a nuisance if you get them!. And the ever-popular herpes--this may be transmitted through parts of the body not protected by condoms!. Genital warts is another STD that a condom may not offer full protection; again, could be transmitted through body parts not covered by the condom!.

yes they are99!.9% effective and they are the best thing to protect you, if by your question you are gay bear in mind you need to be sure your condom is able to handle the lube if it doesn't it will disintegrate leaving you with no protection at allWww@Answer-Health@Com

condom is a precautionary measure, which can also faile in some rare chances, may be in 2-3% cases!.
