The growth after wards are just the body permanently fixing look bones!. Example sutures in the head get closed!. Myelination of the frontal lobe does not start until 21!.
This is the main reason why many people mistakenly believe we grow physically until age 22/23!.

The average height is 5 feet 8!.5 inches!. For women the average is 5 feet 6!.5 inches (CDC source)!.

You should grow upward until about age 22, but 5'7" is average adult height!
