Son has late onset puberty , has anyone heard of low dose testosterone injection!

Question: Son has late onset puberty , has anyone heard of low dose testosterone injections for this !?
My son will be 16 in August and only stands 5'1" !. He not began entering puberty , no hair growth , voice changes , etc !. I took him to a pediatric endocrinologist last year and he ran several tests on him including a blood test that checked his HGH levels !. Everything came back fine !. The dr assured us that he was just a late bloomer and to be patient !. He predicted that between my height and his dads that he would be around 6 ft tall but wouldn't have his growth spurt until he's 17 or 18 !. This is very difficult for a kid who has a strong desire to play sports but lacks the height and strength to do so very well !.

We touched upon the subject of testosterone injections but the doctor said that it would push him through puberty but also risk stunting his growth and not having him reach his full height potential !. I am conflicted over this !.My son is teased at school by other kids !.He is nearly 16 but looks like he's 13 !. I wonder if low dose testosterone injections would helpWww@Answer-Health@Com

That's a tough one!.

IF you can, try to hold off any dosage until that year is up!. He may well find puberty happens very quickly at 17 and he plays catch up in no time!.

I looked much younger than I was for years (and even when I worked in a bar, I was asked my age numerous times!)!.

Although this won't help per se, tell your son to learn to let it go, water off a duck's back as much as possible!. That doesn't mean put up with it; but not let it get to him!. I found out in time, that when I stopped caring what others said to me about looking too young, too slow, too small, etc, they stopped saying it!. So in a way, it's a matter of not letting the b*stards grind you down, as the saying goes!.

Also, for the first year and a bit of puberty, the changes are all internal, chemically controlled (hormones) and IF they are all doing their job, then the rest will follow pretty soon!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

ok i went through this in middle scool, i was liek really short about your sons height, but when i hit junior year in HS i started growing!. I stopped growing at 6'6!.4 so he def!. has potential just wait it outWww@Answer-Health@Com

You want to pump your kid full of synthetic testosterone why!? Because he isn't tall enough yet!? Because some kids tease him and you don't know how to teach him to overcome stupidity from his classmates!? Because maybe YOU don't think it's cool to have a short 16 year old!?

Do NOT pump chemicals into your son because he is the slightest bit abnormal or a late bloomer!.

Why does everybody want to take a pill to solve all their problems!? And why is being a late bloomer a problem anyway!?

I agree with kanzeigroup, but he should not have been rude about it!. Im sorry your son is getting teased, that is too bad, but I don't think you should do the injections!. You said they may stunt his growth in the long run, I think it would be better for him to grow to his full height "eventually" then to have to worry about the side effects he might get from the injections for the rest of his life, just so that he could grow a little faster in the short term!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have heard of testosterone injections!.!.!.uhm, I would follow the advice of your son's doctor for now!. At least give it another year!. I'm sure it's very tough for him!. Kids in high school can be very mean about stature, especially more so with boys!. Technically puberty doesn't stop until the age of 35!. I'm not saying that he has to wait that long but he hasn't quite reached his peak!. He's a late bloomer!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think that him being late could have something to with ethinicty too!. From my experience, I'm in my late 20's, and asian!. I know that our type, grow slower than other races!. I now, just barely started to grow chest and stomach hairs!. Not sure what race you are, or if your issue is related to this, but just giving you a maybe answer!. But I know it's not just my race, but I do notice I grew slower than others that were the same race too!. So I'm not sure, just hope this might help you out some!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
