Question: What is the strange feeling called, that you get when your surprised by a loud noise !?
What is the strange feeling called, that you get when your surprised by a loud noise !?

I get this feeling when I come across a dog unexpectedly, or a enemy!.

Normally, my adrenaline will start pumping, and my heart will start racing when I'm in the presence of someone I don't like!.

Today, out of the corner of my eye, I saw someone that I almost got into a fight with a few weeks ago, and for the first time I felt a piercing pain in my chest!.

Can you explain what that was !?

I understand about the fight-or-flight theory, but for me to get shocked to the point of my chest feeling pierced was strange!.

I think it's because, he was so close to me, I was sitting down, and was totally shocked!.

Have you ever experienced something like that, If you can give me a detailed, or brief explanation!. I'd appreciate it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's your nervous system perking up (like a dogs ears) to prepare you for defense!. It's basically the surge of adrenaline hitting your blood!. Be glad you flinch!.!.!.its your body's way of keeping you aliveWww@Answer-Health@Com

It's called a "startle response" and it's nature's way of getting you ready, in case something happens!. You are right that it is related to "fight or flight!." A certain amount is healthy!. If it seems you are becoming more and more sensitive to it, it can lead to panic attacks (or other issues)!. Sometimes this is physical and sometimes psychological, and usually it is both!. I have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and when I'm stressed out, my startle response goes on overdrive and can become hypervigilent!. I start not being able to sleep, every little sound is magnified, etc!. I'm not saying this is happening to you, it's just what caused it in me!. There is a strong link between heredity and anxiety related disorders, like panic attacks, and many people do fine with a little counseling and/or medication!.

Chances are though, it is simply stress!. If something is bothering you psychologically, like worrying about a job or relationship, it can cause you to be more sensitive to stimuli (like possible threats of violence or loud noises)!. That, too, is completely normal, but if this is the case, you should think about the stressors in your life and take steps to take those down a notch before it becomes a real problem!. Try talking it out with someone you trust!. Of course, if it continues to get worse, talk with your doctor!. If there are anxiety related disorders like panic attacks in your family history, it is better to be informed about professional solutions!. Knowing what to expect is often half the battle!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
