Both guys and girls are really immature when they're young!.
I found out about a girl's period when my older sister had her first one!.
She was coming out of the bathroom with a bloody towell in her hands, acting all weirded out!. I asked my mom what the heck was going on and she told me she would explain things later, which she did!.

I was probably about 9 or 10, it was right after the puberty talk in school with the gym teachers and nurses--- the girls had all gotten this special packs with these elusive things at the time called "pads"--- it sounded cool, like football or soccer!.
So I asked my mom what a pad was when she picked me up from school that day (the girls weren't supposed to talk about the puberty talk just like the guys weren't or we'd lose a gold star)--- she calmly explained to me it was something a woman used during her period, all I could think was "!." as in the punctuation mark--- I was so confused!.
I asked again and she explained to me the basic mechanics of a period at that time, and I was mortified to the point that I was worried that it would happen to me too--- because at this age that's really you're biggest fear that you have no clue what is going on with your body!.
The next year I learned about it in 6th grade science and it seemed logical, but I was still frightened by this whole "sperm and eggs" thing--- it sounded like a defunct children's book title!.
At 19 now, I'm more or less used to it having to cope with being one of the only males in a mostly female family as well as being a friend to a lot of girls, a big brother to a sister who really needed her brother that day to help her get the pads out of the closet despite how weird it was, a son who is much to willing to help out speeding along errands, as well as a boyfriend who tries to be sensitive about that thing!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The reason guys are immature about it is because we have no idea to react to it!. It is totally different to the way that our anatomy works and so, in an attempt to understand it, we trivialise it!.

I think I was 13 when heard about it and my friends were talking about it!. You are right, I remember hearing some pretty immature talk by male classmates!. I felt that menstruation was a really inconvenient thing for girls to have to deal with!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
i was really little!. because i live with my mom and 3 older sisters, it was unavoidable!. like gross bloody toilet seats when they forgot to clean up after themselves (grossness! i've never done that!)!. but yeah, it happens!.

I asked my mom, when in was mentioned in a TV show, she told me I didn't want to know, but of course I made her tell me!. Now when she says "you don't wanna know" like she did then I just trust her and drop the subject!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
