Question: Could I get genital herpes if someone gave me oral sex while they had a cold sore!?
Or if I had a sore in my mouth and I used my saliva as lubeWww@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
I wouldn't risk it -really!. It wouldn't be worth it!.
Genital herpes, and viral herpes(cold sores) both stay in your system your entire life, and flare up on & off!.
It's not a death sentence, but it lasts your entire life - and you wouldn't want to pass it on to anyone else either!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes!.

Cold sores are usually (98% of the time) caused by the herpes virus hsv-1!.

Hsv-1 can be spread to the genitals where it can cause a genital hsv-1 infection!. Hsv-1 is less well-adapted to the genitals than the more usual genital herpes virus hsv-2, which means that though symptoms of hsv-1 and hsv-2 are identical, if you have hsv-1 down below instead of hsv-2 you are likely to have fewer outbreaks and be less infectious!.

An oral herpes infection caused by hsv-1 can spread easily to the genitals - and contrary to popular opinion, it can still spread in between outbreaks, just as genital herpes can!. The risk is lower when there is no cold sore, but there is still a risk of transmitting the virus to your partner's genitals!. I caught genital herpes this way, genital hsv-1, and my partner was in between cold sores!.

Genital hsv-1 is becoming increasingly common, due to the prevalence of oral sex!. In certain countries such as the UK, mouth to genital transmission of hsv-1 is more common than genital to genital transmission of hsv-2!.

If you already have cold sores, you are less likely to catch hsv-1 down below!. So if you already get cold sores, and a partner that gets them gives you oral sex, or you use your own saliva as a lube, your chance of getting genital hsv-1 is much, much lower than someone that has never had oral herpes before!.

Some doctors believe that secondary infections with the same type of herpes only happen in people with immune problems!.This is because normal people build up antibodies to the virus once it is in their system!. These antibodies protect them from a second infection in a different place!. But it can still happen!. For example, you can spread your oral herpes to your eye if you touch your cold sore and then rub your eye!. It only happens to a tiny percentage of people that get cold sores, but it happens!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, you certainly could!. Do not engage in oral sex with someone who has a cold sore!. Even after the cold sore is healed there is still a chance you could catch it from that person, but it is less likely!. And if you have a cold sore, the virus can be transmitted from your saliva!. Be very careful, because once you have the herpes virus you have it forever!. There is no cure - it becomes the "gift that keeps on giving"!.

There is no over-the-counter medication or home remedy that cures cold sores!. Only time will take care of that!. But there is a good prescription medication for cold sores!. It will make them go away much faster, and as a result of taking this medication you will have far fewer outbreaks of cold sores!.

The absolute best treatment for cold sores is a prescription medication in pill form called Valtrex!. It was intended for genital herpes, but cold sores are caused by the same family of viruses, and Valtrex stops colds sores in their tracks!. None of the other treatments come close to the effectiveness of Valtrex, not the ointment Zovirax, and certainly not Abreva or anything else!. Ask your doctor about it to see if you would be a good candidate for this medication!. My doctor prescribed it for me for cold sores about five years ago and after taking it only a couple of times I hardly ever get a cold sore any more, and before Valtrex I was having several attacks a year!. On the rare occasions that I do get one now, it is gone almost immediately when I take the medication - in about a day!. In the meantime, here are a couple of informative links!.
