my fiancee is schizophrenic (sp!?) and has been off his meds for a while, well now it has escalated to the point that he needs to be seen by a doctor, asap!. so his dad is going to take him to the ER to have him seen by a psych on call doctor!. what is the process that they will go thru to admit him and such!? i've never been in a situation like this before, so i don't know what happens!. the lady at the doctors told me that he'll go to the hospital, see if he needs help and then admit him for inpatient care for a few days to get him back on his meds and straitened out a bit!. what happens during that stay!? will he be in the regular hospital or in their sister hospital which is a psychiatric hospital!? i have no clue what happens after he gets to the ER!.!.!. please someone help me!. =:(

He will go to a psychiatric hospital until he can get stabilized again!. His anger at you, if really for no reason, is due to his illness, so he should come back to normal again!.
Before you marry, get yourself fully educated about this illness and learn what to expect!. Do not "run" as one person here advised, but DO learn what may lie ahead!. Life will not always be easy, but then it never is!. But you need to know the reality of schizophrenia!. Please talk with his father as well!. he will go into a psychiatric hospital or a psychiatric unit of a regular hospital which most do not have!. If he needs help but refuses the hospital will admit him under the "Baker Act" which is a law where people that cant make a good decision on their own due to mental or physical situations can be admitted under force until they get the help they need!. The fact is, most schizophrenic patients do stop their meds from time to time!. Some refuse to take them at all after a while!. Even the best mix of drugs makes the patient feel 'off' - some make it impossible to function, so they stop taking them!.
It is a major decision to marry someone suffering from this debilitating disease!. You should get used to the fact that you will be as much his baby-sitter as his wife!. It's hard but true!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
