Ive just found out my dad has prostrate cancer cant get my head around this?!

I read one report that said the vast majority of men, if they were to live to age 100 would develop prostate cancer (if the prostrate gland was removed on autopsy, cancerous cells would be present)!. 90% of cases of prostrate cancer (if caught early enough) is curable with the majority of the early prostrate cancer cases living longer than 5 years after diagnosis!. Not all prostrate cancer treatment is the same!. The most likely treatment is radiation!. (surgery will remove the prostrate gland along with the cancer) Radiation destroys the cancer but can damage healthy cells nearby!. Everything depends on the stage/grade of the cancer!. Sometimes watching and observing is a chosen option (seeing if the cancer spreads or changes) some older men chose this option if they decide the cure is worse than the disease (treatment can cause Erectile issues) Some are willing to risk a shorter life span for quality of life!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Just keep in mind that nowadays cancer treatment has come an incredibly long way and is more and more successful every day, as are the chances of catching the cancer early before it spreads to enable faster and more effective treatment!. Also, from what you've said it would seem that the cancer hasn't spread to any other part of your dad's body which is a very good sign!.
Also, the advances in surgery mean that cancer can often be removed via keyhole surgery and thus the recovery is quicker and less painful!.

all my sympathy!. its really not a nice thing to hear!. i can give u some advice on this topic, my dad was diagnosed 4 months ago!. good news it is a very very treatable and manageable disease!. in many cases it can go undetected for many many years!. treatment may involve radiation or the removal of the prostate at first, but could also involve chemo, should it be the fast progressing type!. this is very treatable, but i know the thought can be hard to process!. good luck!!! strongs!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

if it has been caught early prostate cancer is the most treatable cancer!. not that having any cancer is good but this one is usually treated successfully!.

he will be going to the toilet alot and sometimes he will go and might not be able to pee!. it is annoying as my grandad had it for a year!. but he got rid of it and i believe your dad has a good chance as most people do with this cancer!.

the doctors will treat him really well and make like as normal as possible!. my friend had pancreatic cancer which is the total opposite to prostate as most people die of this cancer!. she died within 2 months!.

since i thought i had it[passing blood] and now found out i hav,nt!. I have met an unbelievable number of men who have it,in fact my mate whos 74 and the fittest guy i know[still cycling 20 or miles a day/swimming in the sea ect!.]has lived with it for the past 9 years or so with no problem other than having to get up at 5 in the morning for a pee,so lets hope your dad was diagnosed early and all should be well!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i found out 4 years ago that my father has prostate cancer and he seems to be doing pretty good my mother said they found it in its earliest stages though!. and they have been treating it ever since!.!.!.!. first they did radiation ball treatment but that only lasted about 2 years and my mother is gone now so i am not updated much on his treatment as e is a man and doesnt talk much on the subject

If its caught early enough and with the correct treatment it is curable!. There is a charity for Urological cancers based here in Aberdeen called Ucan and they are fantastic, they were a great support with my family when my Dad was ill!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
