I don't wear underwear with my jeans or everyday clothes!. I just go commando!.
With dress clothes, I wear thing loose cotton stretchy boxers or boxer briefs!. With my type of gear, I hate that bound up feel that briefs or tighty whitey bring give!. Dress pants sometimes have some wool in them and they can itch like the devil!.
Boxers or boxer briefs are good for hiding spontaneous erections!. You can do a quick technical adjustment so to speak ;- ) and no one will even notice!. You can point your gear str8 upward under the waste band of your underwear toward your belly button!. No one can see it, and it's safe there until it goes down again!. You end up with a curve in your gear if you bind it up and it keeps getting bent the same way always when spontaneous erections happen!.
For pre sex play, I wear microfiber briefs or a thong!. In foreplay when my gear starts to stretch the material, it makes my Lady really want me and she does everything to get me out of them and to get at Me! Hahaha

I tried boxers!. I found in my work I must bend, stoop, squat, twist, turn, etc!. and sometimes my penis ended up on one side of the crotch of the boxers & my testicles ended up on the other side of the crotch of the boxers - and it aint funny, Bubba!
