Answers:
There are a number of reasons why you would have a urinary catheter inserted after surgery:

1!. You simply are not ready to move around!. Depending on what type of surgery, more damage can be done if you attempt to move around too soon!.

2!. Anesthesia causes you to loose the ability to know when you have to use the restroom!. This can cause an unnecessary backup of urine!. Also, the Kidney's slow down their filtration rate because of Anesthesia so the docs and nurses need to adequately monitor how much fluid is going in and how much is coming out (per hour)!. This will let them know if they need to do any interventions to get those Kidney's working again!.

3!. It may take you awhile to recover from the Anesthesia and you might be a bit out of it for a couple of days!. You won't be able to drag yourself across the room if you have no idea where you are!.

If your doctor says you need a catheter, is it likely because getting up and walking or crawling to the bathroom would negate the benefits of the surgery, like pulling stitches or sutures loose!. Or you may physically be unable due to drugs or general weakness from relieving yourself-- or unconscious much of the time during recovery!. Just do it, no big deal, you will forget about it a few days later anyway!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

You can refuse if you want, but doctors don't order things that patients don't need!. If you needed to have a catheter put it, there would be a beneficial reason!.
As far as worrying about a nurse seeing your nakedness, us nurses could care less!. We have seen it all and your naked quality is the last thing on our minds!. We have plenty of other things to do and worry about!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You can refuse what ever you like pal but you must be an idiot to do so whats wrong are you embarrassed about a nurse seeing your little willy or something believe me they have see it all before pal and probably smaller so stop worrying and grow up ( they have a look under the sheets whilst your asleep anyway) ha ha ha only kiddingWww@Answer-Health@Com

Under patients rights as a patient can refuse anything as long as it does not put them in any type of danger!.
If you can handle the pain more power to you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Would not go against Dr's orders!.They do this for a reason:for your benefit actually!.
