Answers:
Oh, good Lord, NO!!

Like the previous poster said, it's just two VERY small incisions, one on each side of the scrotum (they're about 1/4" long or 6mm)!. The doc finds the vas deferens, pulls a tiny bit out of the opening so he can work on it, then he separates it!. With mine, he used an auto-cauterizing scalpel that sealed the ends when he cut!.!.!. then some will either cauterize the ends or tie them off with sutures - but tieing them off is getting rare now!.

There is a newer procedure I heard about where only the penis-side of the vas is cauterized - so when the guy ejaculates, the testes dump the load into the scrotum instead of it all being backed up and creating pressure!. I have no experience in that, so I can't comment!.

With the vasectomy, I was quite nervous, especially when the nurse came at my scrotum with the syringe that was full of anesthetic!. The durned thing looked like it was 12" long and as big around as a garden hose!!! Luckily, it didn't hurt when they used it!.!.!. about as much as grabbing a single hair on your scrotum and yanking it out!.

The procedure was painless, but, being numb, it felt like the doc was trying to pick me up by the scrotum when he pulled the vas deferens out to work on it!.

I was in moderate pain for about three days - and found that frozen peas are a man's best friend!. I bought three bags, keeping them in the freezer!. I grabbed one and used it as an ice-pack to help with swelling and pain - and it worked great!! By the time it is melty, just throw it in the freezer and grab the next bag!. Just make sure you toss the bag on the counter to break the contents up, so they conform to your package!.

Oh yeah, also make sure you throw the darned things out after several days, so they aren't used for dinner!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Buckeyerfan- Fear not!. You'll keep your family jewels!. "Vas" = an abbreviation os "vas deferens!." "ectomy" = removal of, as in appendectomy for removal of an appendix!. The "vas deferens" is a very thin tube-like structure that the sperm from the testicle passes through on its way out!. In doing a vasectomy, the doctor makes a tiny incision in the skin of the scrotum to reach the tiny vas deferens, and removes a small, no more than a quarter of an inch segment of each vas and ties off each end with a stitch (suture) so that the sperm, which continues to be made - and thereafter cannot pass out of the body - dissolves away!. The tiny piece of vas removed is sent to the lab where the pathologists exams it to verify that each vas has indeed been partially removed!. You get to keep all of both testis!. After the operation, several weeks later, you will need to have a test done on some semen (ejaculate) to be examined under the microscope to be sure no more sperm is able to exit your body!. Later, some men even have the cut ends of the vas hooked up again so that they could become fertile!. The whole operation is a short, office procedure which many millions of men have undergone!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My husband had it done right in the dr!.'s office!. They do NOT cut out your testicles!. They make a very small incision (after local anesthesia) and cut the tube that carries sperm out of the penis, then tie or burn the ends of the cut tube!. That's it! It takes about three days and the majority of the pain/swelling is gone!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
