Answers:
Male hypogonadism (< 300 ng/dL total testosterone) can really wipe a person out!. Your feeling echoes the cognitive effects of low testosterone, including depression, anxiety, lack of motivation, impaired memory, & many other problems in mental function!. & those are simply some problems in the realm of mental function, excluding the physical problems!.

There are other men to talk to who have this condition!. One excellent source of encouragement & information is http://health!.groups!.yahoo!.com/group/hyp!.!.!.
Here, one can find men who are dealing with this condition, as well as their strategies for handling it!. They share natural & pharmaceutical ways to increase testosterone, manage estradiol (an estrogen), & deal with related problems in order to feel "whole"!.

Know that many of the side effects of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) have been exaggerated, misrepresented, & simply fabricated!. Here's a bit of clarification regarding the most commonly referenced risks:

1) Prostate cancer is one of the biggest fears in the minds of men considering TRT (& in the minds of their doctors)!. In addition to others, Dr!. Abraham Morgentaler, Associate Clinical Professor at Harvard Medical School, demonstrates the flawed conclusions made in studies that are cited as strong confirmation that TRT is like "adding fuel to a fire" for prostate cancer!. He reviews the studies of Dr!. Huggins & Drs Fowler & Whitmore, commenting that such studies show that testosterone does not have a clear cut role in promoting prostate cancer!. Other hormones (like estradiol) & factors may play an equal or greater role in prostate cancer!.

Both of these urls direct to his chapter about prostate cancer risk from "Testosterone for Life"

2) Polycythemia, or an abundance of red blood cells which can make the blood "thick"!. This can be addressed by keeping TRT dosage small & frequent (as opposed to huge injections once every 2 or 4 weeks)!. Moreover, phlebotomy works well at correcting the problem if it arises!.

3) Gynecomastia can be prevented by managing estradiol early on!. Aromatase inhibitors, though not approved specifically for estradiol management (they are approved for preventing breast cancer recurrence), can prevent gynecomastia!. Another way to minimize conversion of testosterone to estradiol is to dose with small amounts frequently!.

Note: I have mentioned injections because they are the cheapest & one of the best forms of TRT!. Testosterone pellets are even better (last for 3-4 months & have a low conversion rate from testosterone to estradiol), but they are expensive & require surgery to implant [& remove if they cause problems])!.

Hence, two of the major concerns can be prevented by proper dosing schedules!. There are risks with TRT, just as with everything else, but the risks are smaller & less severe than other types of hormone medications (such as corticosteroids, which can actually cause psychosis)!. The risks of untreated hypogonadism are more numerous & severe, with osteoperosis, diabetes, & depression-related problems, among others!.
