I don't understand 'his calf is horrid"!. But for the sore throat, take a flashlight and look into his throat!. If it is red, inflamed, or with white looking patches, then he has a problem!. Also, is he running a fever!?
You might try Chloroseptic Spray and Ibuprofen or Tylenol!.

take him to the doctors and get him looked at, why are you asking that question on the internet its called being a parent!. Do what you think is best and learn from your mistakes!. If it can hurt your child do not do it, if it is going to help them or get the better do it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
