Is this dangerous for a man (or woman)?!

Question: Is this dangerous for a man (or woman)!?
One of my friend who is a former navy seal will "train" by going into a dry sauna and then dunk himself into bathtub full of cold water filled with ice!.

He says going from heart rate of 170 to 60 in a few minutes due to the "diving response" of the cold water is good for you!.

He has a set up where he has a sauna next to a deep bath!.

He says his wife does it too and wants me to try it!. I'm 51 years old man who is in good shape but this sounds dumb!.

Is he crazy!? Sounds kind of dangerous, like it could stop his heart!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Not a navy seal but was in the Marines!.

Yes humans do have diving response but not as refined like a real seal!.

It can be very dangerous can cause heart to stop, so don't do it unless you have a defibrillator handy!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ever watch the "polar bears"!. Its a group of people that jump into freezing water together!. They swear by it!. I don't know what the "diving response" is for humans!. For marine mammals it is an adaptation that activates oxygen conservation in their body when their face is chilled by cold water!. As far as I know, we, humans do not have this trait!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Having an ice bath is meant to be good for the muscles

Not so sure about the whole heart thing but he does sound like he knows what he is talking about!. Maybe check about on the internet and see what you can findWww@Answer-Health@Com

Professional Rugby players go into an hot bath before going into a icey one to treat their bumps and bruises (or may be the other way round) but I doubt it'd be much more different than that!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
