I'm an 18 guy , and I'm 5'9'' , many people have told me that I'm so tall !! Am I really that tall ? and will I grow anymore ?

Answers:

The average height for an American man is 5'10", up from 5'9" a few years ago, so you're right in the middle, depending on your ethnicity. If you're not of European or African descent, then you might be above average in your community, and that's why people say you're so tall. I believe The Netherlands has the tallest people, but in the U.S., the average man is 5'10". A lot of guys grow after the age of 18, I know I grew three inches after high school, but that is probably not typical. The experiences of your dad and other male relatives should give you some indication as to what you can expect. Some people stop growing at the age of 15 or 16, and some continue into their 20's, though that is rare.

I'm a few inches above average and whenever I feel tall someone reminds me how unexceptional I am. Last week on the commuter train into my job in Chicago, I turned around and looked directly into the chest of the guy behind me, who had to duck in order to not hit is head on the luggage rack in the middle of the car that is at least 6'9" high. A couple of days later, I was standing on a step and still wasn't as tall as him, so it's all relative, I guess.

You might still grow a little. Exercise, don't smoke or do illegal drugs, and eat a relatively healthy diet while taking multivitamins and your odds are increased. But the best thing to do is to have tall parents, though it's probably too late for that. Mostly, don't worry about it because there isn't much you can do about your height, and be glad you don't have to shop at special stores in order to find clothing or be so big that you scare small children.

I wish I had more hair. I'm blaming my folks for that, too.

I'm the same height, and I'm a little shorter than everyone else around here, but I live in hick country with the giants and lumberjacks; so you're probably tall for your area. And there is more growing to do. You'll probably max somewhere between 5'11'' and 6'2''.

It's around average. When I was 18 I was 5'10 but I pretty much stopped growing since then. I did notice that a lot of my classmates were taller than me, usually around 6 feet tall or even taller. But I also look back at people who are 18 now and they are 5'6". Is it me or does each generation get tinier and tinier?

No offense, not trying to brag or anything but it might be where you live. I am about 5' 10" ish at 15 and i am not close to the tallest person in my school.

Well, it is pretty tall, but don't worry there are taller people out there. And yes, you will grow more. People can grow rarely even in their twenties but it wont be much ;)

family & friends

Dude I'm 6' and I'm only 16 and I don't even consider myself tall. I think whoever told you this is messing with you. Your probably done growing.

Not really. It's pretty typical, lots of guys are taller. You may get another inch over the next few years, but don't count on it.
