having given up drinking lately, it does bring on some strange side effects similar to food poisoning.
s small glass of wine is fine, two or three after a month without drink gave me one hell of a hang over last weekend.

Food poisoning would be a much more severe than a reaction from an alcoholic drink taken after withdrawing from alcohol. Buy him some 1% milk or some juice with a low acid content. For now make sure he keeps drinking water if he is vomiting a lot. He has to stay hydrated.
