Part 1
Aloys Ndasingwa commits his evil acts because he feels as if he is only following orders, he also believes the Tutsis are inferior and he is used to all this is happing and has accepted it as acceptable behavior. In the section Aloys Ndasingwa is a member of an interhamwe militia (A Hutu killing squad). His militia is going to a church to kill all the Tutsis seeking refuge inside of the church. After killing all but four Tutsis he recollects of something he heard after seeing a pile of dead bodies. Aloys then says “I’ve even been told that they play football with the skulls, but I haven’t seen that with my own eyes yet”. This shows such a lack of respect for the dead it is almost sickening. This quote shows how the Hutus are dehumanizing the Tutsis; they are playing with their bones as if a toy. For someone to do this to even an animal’s bones is an act of total ignorance and disrespect. It also gives Aloys an acceptance of evil see if other people are doing acts as undesirable and cruel as this then Aloys will begin to accept that it is acceptable behavior. With acts like these who knows what other despicable horrible things happened during this genocide. Either way Aloys will begin to think that almost anything done to a Tutsi is appropriate which again shows the dehumanization that occurred during this genocide. In general any form of genocide even its smallest forms are a terrible act to be committed.

Part 2
The narrator who most intrigued me was Rosa Karemera. She tells the story from the view of a Tutsi willing to do anything to survive. She tells the story of a neighbor of her whose only goal during this genocide is to kill Rosa. Her name is Valerie Rumiya A Hutu women during the story she walks to interhamwe kill squad to the next kill squad just to hear to confirm that Rosa is dead. Rosa has been hiding right in front of her the whole time. One day she seeks shelter with another neighbor. She is eventually found but not killed. Her role was as if even though she survived doesn’t mean she isn’t a victim of the genocide. Her story shows the struggle of those who have survived and the burden they bare. By the burden they bare I mean all the horrible things they have to live with. To some of them surviving is less than a blessing and more of a curse to live the rest of her life with. Diop but this section into the book to tell of the struggles of the survivor of genocide. This section helps readers better understand that surviving isn’t as big of a blessing as one would often see it as. That is why Rosa Karemera was the most impacting narrator up to this point in the book.
