If getting a vasectomy, asking to save a sample of your semen isn't any ext!

Question: If getting a vasectomy, asking to save a sample of your semen isn't any extra?
Hey there, I was thinking about getting fixed for my 20th birthday before I leave for the military. I don't have insurance at the moment and will most likely be paying all this out the pocket. I've heard around that it might cost somewhere in the $500-600 range. Having them save a sample of your semen just in case you change your mind in the future wouldn't add to the bill right?

Answers:

First of all, no doctor is going to "save your semen". You have to go to a "Cryobank" and they will save your sperm for a fee. Such an endeavor is not at all connected with getting the vasectomy. You also must pay for the storage. Yes that will cost many thousands of dollars.

You can go to a sperm bank and make a donation. But that is a whole different story. Your sperm is given to someone else, not back to you at a later date.

I had a vasectomy when I was 21. I felt no need to store any sperm. I have no children. Life is good without them.

Although I don't know for sure, I would think it would cost to store it. You would have to give a sample before you went for the operation.
It would be advisable if you had a reversible vasectomy done. In 10 years if you change your mind, they can reverse it. It's a little added protection. Lots of things can change in 10 years, you may meet someone and decide you want to have a dozen lol.
Best thing to do is check with your doc, he can tell you for sure about storing, the cost and about the ability to reverse it if that something you haven't checked out already.

Don't know if this answered what you want, but hope it helps a bit...

Dude your making a huge mistake, look further into the future than the next couple of years. Buy condoms, what if you want a kid with your future wife in ten years? You may have the sample or whatever (if it's even still good), but what if you want another kid? You gotta look further into the future man, reversing your vasectomy would also suck. Condoms brah.

Well do what ya gotta do man, just the fact that you're 20, if you were 50 I would say go nuts. It's not everyday you hear of a 20 year old wanting a vasectomy. And who knows maybe when your done your time you will find a great girl and you guys will want a baby. That is all, sorry I can't tell you how to live your life, just offer you advice.
Take care.

Why would you do something so drastic at age twenty? A vasectomy wont prevent STDs. You really seem confused. You say that the life you want to live does not involve kids. Why do you want to save semen. You seem confused.

With this type of thnking - I'm wondering what your Military outlook on life will be. Heaven help us.
