How to relieve sore calf muscles?!

Question: How to relieve sore calf muscles?
My calf muscles have been sore since Thursday and I don't know why. The only thing I can think of is I had P.E. and we did more exercises than normal. But other than that, I haven't done anything really abnormal. What would cause this and how would I make it stop?

Muscle soreness is caused by tiny tears in the muscle fibers which occur when the muscle is overworked during eccentric exercise. "Eccentric" means that the muscle is getting longer while it's pulling, trying to get shorter. Your calf contracts concentrically when you jump, it elongates eccentrically when you land again. Basically, you worked your calf muscles harder than they were trained to work. (Were you doing wind sprints or other stop-and-go drills, by any chance? Planting a foot to stop yourself requires an eccentric contraction of the calf, and it's hard to control how much force you're exerting when you do it.)

The pain should be gone in about 72 hrs. You can try massaging the muscle, soaking it in a hot bath, or applying salicylates (Icy Hot or Ben Gay or anything with menthol). Exercise can help - take a walk or an easy jog.

If you have sore muscles from P.E. class then I suggest you might to need to work out a little more, P.E. classes are designed for the below average person. But you could do calf exercises and if you cramp up point your toes up towards you.
