A birth mark is just that, a mark on the body created during the birth process. You cannot get one later in life!

However, there are many marks one can get on the body later in life ranging from scars due to accidents, surgery or some vaccinations to pigmentations due to natural causes (freckles for example), sunbathing or malignant (cancerous) tissue.

A few small brown spots are nothing in themselves to worry about. However, keep a watch on them in case they grow in which case you should draw them to the attention of your doctor just in case they are malignant.

Usually not. Maybe those spots have been there all along, and it's only now that you notice them.

You can actually "induce" skin pigmentation when you sunbathe... and the results are called freckles. You can have them on the face, on your arms, or even on your back... that is, if you're predisposed to getting them.

One thing you have to be cautious about is a spot that you've sworn you haven't seen before in your life, that has developed in such a short time, has irregular borders, sometimes different hues of color, appearing more commonly over sun-exposed areas. If you notice these, it's best you see a doctor to make sure it's not a melanoma. They usually occur in adults, but there are uncommon instances that juvenile forms of melanoma occur in kids.
