:( It's that time of the year again...?!

Question: :( It's that time of the year again...?
My brrthday is coming up on March 17th. I will be turning 18! Every year since I was 13 I get sad and depressed like a week before my birthday. I think this year the depression came a bit too early. Today I was feeling down, thinking about how people get old and eventually die! I feel so young and I feel like I will feel like this for a very very looong time; but when reality sets in, I want to go in my room...make it dark and lay under the covers! My friends want to go out for my birthday and I think I will do that...to get my mind off of things!!

How can I beat this annual depression?
Thanks!

Answers:

Bro, I would just relax and let life be.
I have know control over that, so why waste my time being depressed about it?
So go out and chill with your friends, make positive annual memories not depressing one bro

Maybe you are looking at it wrong, instead of seeing age as loosing youth (although you are young!), maybe you should try to see it as gaining life.

I work in a retirement home. They residents are all over the age of 60, but let me tell you, 99% of them will tell you not that they are sad to be old but they are happy to have lived such a full life.

If you live your days and years to teh fullest, at the end you may not be so sad about dying.

:)

When you finish puberty, things have a tendency to settle down. You will be more mature, plus have a job, all kinds of bills & responsibilities, probably a wife & kids, etc. & you will NOT have time to even THINK about being depressed.
Life is not always the way it's supposed to be. It's just the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.

My 18th birthday is also approaching and I sometimes feel the same way as you.

I just have to focus on the good things awaiting me in the future.
I am going to college, earning a degree, getting a decent job, having freedom, making new friends.

You just have to focus on all of the good things that the future holds and you will have no problems. :)

I'm in my 40s and if you want my opinion, life has only gotten better and better as I grew older. Don't be sad about aging, celebrate each year's achievements and hard-won wisdom!
