How do I watch my fluids?!

Question: How do I watch my fluids?
I am a 28 year old male 6'6" and 450 lbs. I am on Dialysis but I am having trouble with watching my fluids. All my life I have been told to drink a gallon of water a day and am now being told that I can only have 1 liter of fluids daily. I need help with this I need tips and Idea's to help me because I am a big guy and I get thirsty and am always over my fluid gains allowed which is bad for my heart and my treatments. Does anyone have suggestions? If you are a dialysis patient or have been and have tips please contact me LuDaZone@hotmail.com Please no spam! responses here are helpful too!

I would tone down on physical exertion, because it will make you more thirsty. Also, avoid foods containing salt, as they will make you really thirsty and you can actually get sick if you don't drink... also, the excessive salt is not good for your kidneys either. Lastly, any food that you know you need to drink with, something that gets stuck in your teeth or at the back of your tongue should be eliminated.

Oh, and chew your food more, that way you wont need a big gulp of water to wash it down if it gets stuck in your throat, you'll be able to swallow it more easily.

I'm on dialysis also, and the fluid restriction was annoying for me also. What I do is every morning I fill up a liter bottle (mine's a left over root beer bottle) and take sips from it all day when I get really thirsty.
Also, watch what you're eating. Salty foods (which you shouldn't be eating anyway =P) will make you want to drink, as will spicy foods, foods that get stuck in your throat, etc.
Another way to cheat a little is to eat juicy fruits ;-)
