How long should I stop taking medicine before I can drink?!
Question: How long should I stop taking medicine before I can drink?
Answers:
It is important to avoid drinking alcohol while taking metronidazole (Flagyl) and common anti-fungal medication. Alcohol and metronidazole have a drug interaction that results in the decreased ability of your body to break down alcohol. If you ingest alcohol either by drinking (beer, wine, spirits) or by medications with significant alcohol percentages in them (cough syrup, mouth wash); the alcohol can accumulate in the body and cause many side effects. These side effects can include nausea, vomiting, headache, flushing (warm sensation and reddening of the skin that appears like a rash) and abdominal cramps. It is important to avoid alcohol intake while you are currently taking the medication and at least until the medication is completely out of your system, which will take at least 3 days after your finish the medication.
You want to wait at least 24 hours after taking the pills before you start drinking. After then you should be good. But you can always look up the medication and drinking on google, or call your doctors office and they will tell you.
Now don't stop taking the medication for a day just so you can drink. Finnish taking your full anti-fungal cycle before stopping otherwise the fungal infection can just come back and you have to start a whole new cycle again.
