What would be a good workout schedule for me?!

Question: What would be a good workout schedule for me?
Hi, I'm in high school and want to start lifting weights. I'm a swimmer and swim 5 days a week. I'm getting a workout machine at home... http://www.target.com/Pure-Fitness-Multi…

So I was wondering how long I should do the weights for? I was thinking swim for 1 1/2 hours (that's how long practice is) 5 days a week and then lift for about 30-45 minutes, 3 days a week. I'm trying to get definition. I don't want to be like steroid ripped, but decent definition. Any advice? Anything would help, thanks!

Well Tyler, I'm no expert, but I do go to the gym regularly, doing cardio and weights and spinning.
Swimming is a brilliant way to exercise on you're on the right road. Before you start doing weights, consider your diet, like is it healthy with plenty of protein, whole-grains and fibre, including vegetables and some fruit. Drinking plenty of fluid is also essential, but certainly during and after exercise. There's no need for supplements unless you wanna be mr universe. Get instruction from the gym instructor about lifting, how many sets for each and the weight you should start with. Technic is vital, otherwise you could damage yourself. Start with a weight you can handle ok until you're confident, then gradually increase it. Be sure to rest (30 seconds) between sets.
When trying to bulk out muscle, rest is important, meaning that if you work in one muscle group today, tomorrow you rest it and work on something else. Finally, careful stretching exercises helps your overall fitness and staying power. Don't expect results over night, but I reckon you're half way there mate, so good luck.

I think you're about right. Maybe lift each day you swim so instead of 3 days a week lift for 5 but use the weekends as rest. Hope this helps
