Dont ****. The more you **** (even if you **** just once or twice a week) the weaker your erections are. The bloodflow to your penis isn't going to be as great therefore you're penis will be a bit flacid and it won't reach its full size.

I think trimming real short would be the best way to go for a while. Especially if you are showering among other guys. Things have changed since I was your age.
