Is circumcision uncomfortable?!

Question: Is circumcision uncomfortable?
I am 21, and considering circumcision, because i think its much more hygienic, and looks more attractive. However i have some worries. When my foreskin is retracted, it feels quite uncomfortable when the head of my penis rubs against my boxers, obviously because it is very sensitive. Is it permentantly uncomfortable when your circumsized, or does it become less sensitive with time? It Also kinda hurts when im in a really hot bath. Also if the nerves on the head of the penis become less sensitive, does this mean sex dosen't feel as good? I'm asking preferably for the perspective of someone who was circumcised as an adult, and therefore has a comparison.

Answers:

I was circumcised when I was 19. I can tell you that yes its pretty uncomfortable for the first few days because your head is sooo sensitive. You'll get some pain meds but nothing potent. You will also have a wad of bandaging as a helmet which helps a lot except when you have to change it...and there's always that little bit that sticks...

Overall its not as bad as it sounds so I wouldn't stress too much. Most of the pain is situational, like changing the bandage or getting a hardon. Or standing up...sitting down...taking a shower...peeing...and my personal favourite, when the cat suddenly jumps on you.

As far as sensitivity I have to say I lost A LOT. The up side is that I can last a lot longer than I used to, the down side is that sex with a condom on is pointless for me cuz I barely feel a thing.

No, you will lost a little bit of sensibility on the penis head, but is 100% more hygienic than being not circumcised. I was circumcised when I was a newborn, and I can tell is more comfortable and more exiting, also you can prevent a lot of sickness, since the head is always covered by the foreskin. An inflammation of the glans penis and foreskin is called balanoposthitis; that affecting the glans alone is called balanitis. Both conditions are usually treated with topical antibiotics (metronidazole cream) and antifungals (clotrimazole cream) or low-potency steroid creams. Although not as necessary as in the past, circumcision may be considered for recurrent or resistant cases. Also, this simple operation protects against the development of phimosis.

Definitely do the circumcision. You are completely correct, it is more hygienic and looks better too. You won't have to ever worry about Phimosis, or a foreskin that is too tight and tears, or won't retract and it is much easier to keep clean.
Of course it is inititially sensitive after the procedure, like getting a tooth filled or an eyebrow pierced.
Sex is wonderful -- for the three or five people who tell you horror stories about how the penis is no longer sensitive, just think about it -- tens of millions of men all over the world, America, Canada, Israel, South Korea, Philippines, and Multiple countries in Africa are having sex and loving it.

Thousands and thousands get this done as an adult and wonder why they waited so long.
Circumcised guys don't have smegma and don't get Phimosis, and have lower rates of STDS and AIDS than uncircumcised guys. Multiple studies of thousands of men have proven this.

Moreover, a recent article in New York times shows a correlation between lower rates of cervical cancer among women in countries where the majority of men are circumcised.

The hygiene issue is debatable. In today's world, with modern medicine, if you take a shower every day and properly clean your penis by retracting your foreskin, you don't actually "need" a circumcision.

Some people do the circumcision for religious purposes.

Your head will become less sensitive over time. To say whether or not sex feels "more" or "less" good... that's a tough question. In a way, an uncircumcised man is just having sex with his own foreskin. But in reality, a circumcised man is having sex directly with the woman...?

I am not male...but my father is a doctor in the nursery at our hospital...and it would seem like the reason they circumsize babies is because it hurts quite a bit...and trauma as a newborn is not remembered as an adult..... I am sure your doctor would be able to give you an answer about your age. Good luck

no it is not permanently sensitive, in 1 or 2 weeks it stops hurting. Sex will not feel as good, but you'll get more of it because women like circumcised because it looks better.

Circumcision is silly, enjoy your intact self, you will be no cleaner and you'll have a piece of flesh instead of a functioning penis.

definitely get circumcised because I was circumcised and I can't stand the thought of having an inferior penis so if everyone is circumcised my worries will be over

im not gonna tell you wat to do wit ur penis but here is some info.

Circumcision is Unnecessary Risky, and Painful. Complications occur 2-10% of the time!(1) If you count more "minor" skin tags, complication rates as high as 55%(1) have been documented. Perhaps worst of all, more then 117 (4) to 230(5) infants in the U.S. die from circumcision every year.

DO YOUR RESEARCH The circ rate is down to 30% in the U.S. and the value of conformity is subjective any way.

No official western medical organization in the world recommends it, not even in Israel!. The Royal Dutch Medical Society, The British Medical Association, the Canadian Pediatric Society, and the Royal Australian College of Physicians have all made official policy statements against circumcision. The AAP, the AMA, the AAFP, and the AUA are in agreement that there are no proven benefits. they all have officialy termed circumcision as non-therapeutic or ritual surgery.

What is the foreskin? Information about the foreskin is virtually absent during discussions of anatomy in biology classrooms, and yet, the foreskin provides a well-documeted set of crucial sensory, protective, immunological, hygienic, and sexual functions. The foreskin is a double fold of skin that is twice as big as its appearance. It can make up to 80% or more of the penile skin covering, and includes around 12-20 square inches of skin (the size of a 3x4 or a 4x5 index card!), and in turn includes a specialized sheet of dartos muscle(42,44). One of the functions of this mobile skin system is to glide up and down the shaft of the penis in order to facilitate non-abrasive stimulation during sexual activity without any need for artificial lubricant. This frictionless gliding mechanism is the principal source of stimulation for the intact penis and facilitates non-abrasive intercourse.

in a 2006 study which measured the sensitivity of all the parts of the penis. they concluded

"Five locations on the uncircumcised penis that are routinely removed at circumcision were more sensitive than the most sensitive location on the circumcised penis ... which is the amputation scar on the ventral side "(51)

The foreskin, like the eyelid, also serves an important set of protective and immunological functions. The foreskin protects the delicate glans of the penis and puts the urethra at a distance form its environment protecting it from foreign contaminants of all kinds. While simultaneously shielding the penis from injury. The foreskins inner fold and the glans of the penis are comprised of mucous membrane tissue. These are also present in your eyes, mouth, and all other bodily orifices including the female genitals. These mucous membranes perform many immunological and hygienic functions. Certain components such as Langerhans cells(52), plasma cells(53), apocrine glands(54), and sebaceous glands(55), collectively secrete emolliating lubricants(56) rich in enzymes such as lysosomal enzymes, cathepsin B, chymotrypsin, neutrophil elastase, immunoglobulin, and cytokine(58,58) whose function is to sequester and “digest” foreign pathogens. The foreskin is also responsible for the production, retention, and dispersal of pheromones such as androsterone(59). In time we will discover even more information about the foreskin and its functional components.

The intact penis is naturally clean and maintains a level of hygiene that is optimal when compared to a penis that has been altered by circumcision. In fact, a myriad of rigorously controlled studies performed by objective researchers among racially and socioeconomically homogeneous study groups in developed urban settings have shown that circumcision is often associated with an increased risk of bacterial infections, viral infections, and major STD’s (60,61,62,63,64,65,66,67,68,69,70,71).

I am also not male but I have done a lot of research on the topic seeing as one day I intend on having a son. I will be leaving him intact for many reasons. First of all, when you are born, the foreskin doesn't even retract yet. Second, fewer people are having the procedure done because there actually are NO medical benefits. If you wash properly, hygiene shouldn't be an issue. It WILL hurt, and there can be a lot of complications. You will lose a great deal of sensitivity, especially because the "pleasure spots" are mostly in the tissues that would be removed through circumcision. Yes, the glans would become less sensitive, but it would sort of "callous" over. In my honest opinion it would not be worth it. The foreskin serves a purpose. You are more likely to make a woman orgasm through intercourse if you are intact, and this is biologically important because the contractions would help sperm travel where it needs to go. You're also less likely to develop erectile dysfunction at an earlier age. That being said, do your own research and decide if you still want to do it.

You think that circumcision is cleaner? It's more attractive?
Most of the world thinks otherwise, as 80% of the males in the world are not circumcised.

The foreskin has langerhans cells, which produce langerin and has known antiviral and antibacterial properties.

Most of the world considers a circumcised penis as looking mutilated and scarred, because that's what it is.

And it's much more about function than appearance. The foreskin has about 20,000 nerve endings and specialized tissues---it's not "extra skin," but an integral part of the penis, necessary for complete sexual feeling/function.

"Adults who undergo circumcision report less-satisfying sex, reduced sensitivity and erectile function, difficulty with intromission and increased premature ejaculation."
---------from Nature Clinical Practice Urology 20 January 2009

And in normal sex, the vaginal walls retract the foreskin upon intromission, and the motion of the foreskin during sex heightens the enjoyment of both partners. The smoother tissues of the non-circumcised penis combined with the motion of the foreskin are less abrasive to the vaginal walls then the dry, rough skin of the circumcised penis.

Bear in mind that almost all circumcised males had it forced on them as infants, with no regard for their rights in the matter. Many circumcised males hate the mutilation of circumcision forced on them. Very few males ever actually choose to undergo male genital mutilation, called circumcision.

It's your penis; get circumcised if you wish, but the damage, neural and vascular, is permanent.

What I object to is forcing it on children.

Circumcision is a fraud and a hoax.

A foreskin is not a birth defect; it is a birthright.
