Abdominal Excersizes?!

Question: Abdominal Excersizes?
I think I spelt excdrsize wrong - feel free to correct me on that. My question is this:
When I do sit-ups, crunches or any of the other variations suggested by various people, my mid to lower back hurts. I try to keep from pulling up with my head/neck but it doesn't seem to help.

Are there any alternatives or ideas how to prevent back pain?
(I am 18 - so it's not old age! lol)

Answers:

NO man..ur back is not suppose to hurt..if it does, ur doing ur "exercising" wrong and u could b killing ur back muscles. Sit on a pillow and don't pull up so far...u don't need to pull ur chin to ur knees if ur laying down...put ur knees up and just do ur sit up's/crunch to them without all the back strain or have someone hold down ur ankles and just go up 6-7 inches...thats all u need.

your back is suppose to hurt.
what did you think you could exercise and get strong without pain?

stop being a puss man up and do 1000 sit-ups a day
100 pushups a day
and preferably 150 pull ups.
