Energy Drink Health Effects?!

Question: Energy Drink Health Effects?
Alright, I'm 13. I don't drink energy drinks often. I rarely ever have them. I can still remember the amount of energy drinks that I have had in my life. Other than an increased heart beat, panic attacks due to the increased heart beat and possible death what other health effects are there?

In 2009 (one 250ml Red Bull, one 250ml V).
In 2010 (three 50ml V pocket rockets, one 500ml monster, four 250ml Vs).
In 2011 (one 500ml monster, one 500ml Mother).

I know I kinda had heaps in 2010 but that was over a 12 month period and on average, less than one a month. The only reason why I take them is because they seriously give me an energy boost. A lot of the time when I get home from school, I'm really tired and often either go to sleep for two-three hours. I know that energy drinks aren't healthy but as mentioned before, it gives me an energy boost and helps me concentrate. Often I'm quite tense after school. I get tired easily after school.

P.S. I know I shouldn't be drinking them and that they are unhealthy, but energy is what we need in life and sometimes we need a boost.

Answers:

If you use them within their recommended dosages (max 2 a day) you should be fine.

But as you said they are best avoided when possible, but I'm with you as well, sometimes you just NEED a boost, and they are great for that sort of thing.

Pretty much, what they do is have caffeine, taurien and or guarana. (spelling?)

I know V is good because it only has the amount of caffeine as the average coffee.
What caffeine does is wraps around the sensors in your brain that pick up the chemical that puts you to sleep (a chemical your body produces) so caffeine mimics this chemical, but doesn't give it's effects. So it blocks of those sensors from receiving the sleeping chemical. However, caffeine has a half life of about 6 hours (So, 6 hours from now, half of it is still there, 6 hours later, half of that, etc.) so for those people who drink 5 cups of coffee a day, it'll take several days really before they are free from caffeine.

Gaurana is a natural substance found in berries. It gives you the energy and being a natural compound it's obviously not as bad for you as something artificial would be.

So pretty much, don't have more than you should. (Some people drink it like soft drink) and use it within it's set out parameters (2 max daily) just be aware that people have died from them before. But if you have one every odd week or month for that needed boost, then it'll be totally alright. Everything in moderation. Just remember, nothing replaces a good amount of sleep.

Studies have shown they cause kidney failure and stuff like that and can even kill you therefore I don't drink them at all
